While tattoos are incredibly vibrant when they are new, they also fade over time just like every other work of art. As time goes by, the ink that is deposited in the body through needles piercing the skin becomes thoroughly absorbed, creating a spreading effect. According to Science Focus, constant exposure to the sun is also a major reason why tattoos fade even faster. And if you used colors that fade faster than others like white or pale yellow, the fading happens earlier than you can imagine.
Tattoos may fade over the years, but the significance they bear in anybody who decides to have them is always there. It is a personal brand that is seen by everyone, shouting who you really are without having to say anything.

It’s a shame because this one is rather captivating to look at.

14. Bird’s Image Has Flown The Coop
It’s surprising how much this tattoo faded in just four years’ time. The original doesn’t seem to be terribly detailed, so it’s no wonder that the dated version has lost its color. Even though it was done in black and grayscale, there isn’t much left.
15. Look Twice At The Lotus
Fifteen years exist between these two pictures of tattoos. It’s amazing how the red and yellow colors are virtually nonexistent and how discolored the blue is. The black, as expected, as held up well. Tattoo artists know that hands are a harder spot to hold color.

In just six months’ time, it faded considerably – understandably of course.

21. Indecipherable Tattoo

22. Unhappy About This Tat
While her tattoo encourages us to “Do what makes you happy,” watching the tattoo fade probably didn’t make her happy. The original doesn’t look all that great, however.
23. Bow’s Coming Unraveled

31. It’s Just Not Peachy Anymore
Feet are another tricky spot to keep a tattoo fresh looking, especially one toward the heel. There’s constant friction between the tattoo and shoes, even socks. This one lasted only two weeks.
32. Fan’s Loyalty Fades

Isn’t this eagle such a majestic work of body art? It is just so sad that its colors have gone since it was first inked more than 3 decades ago. However, considering the length of time since it’s been done, the colors are still quite alive.
40. Fine lines no more
Fine line tattoos are normally minimalistic but very detailed and delicate. But, just like any other tattoos, they tend to be less defined and clear over time.
41. Colorless tiger
Can you believe the effect of 2 decades in this tiger-inspired tattoo? What used to be bright orange has completely gone now! At least the dark stripes are still visible.
