Exams can be tough. Often, there will be a question on the exam that stumps even the most diligent student. And when that happens, students have to get a bit creative with their answers. These 50 students all thought outside the box, resulting in some clever answers to both simple and not-so-simple questions. If you need a good laugh today, here are 50 of our favorite student exam answers!
This student decided to get religious with the answers to the problems on their math worksheet. We’re not sure how the teacher responded to this one.
2) Always Have A Back-Up Plan
This student tried their best answering a math problem, but they knew there was a chance they made a mistake. And so, just in case, they decided to bribe their teacher was a cute picture of a giraffe. The gamble worked—the student got an extra point for their efforts!
This young student invented a plant jail to answer their teacher’s question about plant cells. We’re very impressed by the details in the photo. Plus, the student made sure to fully answer the question and identify the most important parts of the cell. They deserve partial credit for that!
4) Name The Quadrilateral
When this student read that she had to name the quadrilaterals, she decided to take the question very literally. But she managed to come up with some fitting names—that square definitely looks like a Bob!
To illustrate their point, math questions often have to get unrealistic. That’s the case with this question, where students were asked what would happen if a man had 36 candy bars and ate 29 of them. Instead of doing the math, one student decided to simply say what would probably really happen to poor Bob.
This teacher tried to have some fun with their math worksheet by using ghosts. But one true non-believer wasn’t having it, and they answered the question in their own unique way.
This student’s answer isn’t exactly wrong, but it definitely wasn’t what the teacher was looking for. If the student really wanted full credit, they should have paid more attention to the second part of the question and supported their answer with examples.
Here’s another student who took the exam question
very literally. We’re sure Queen Elizabeth II did quickly sit down. After all, coronation day is probably pretty tiring. Still, we think the teacher was looking for a different answer here.
When you think of ‘free press,’ the first thing that comes to mind is a newspaper. That’s the answer the teacher was looking for, but this student decided to go another route with their response. This is another case of the student technically being right, so hopefully the teacher gave them partial credit.
This student decided to go a very clever route with their answer to this question. We’re glad their teacher liked their risk and rewarded them with a big red checkmark!
11) You Better Put A Ring On It
This student clearly loves Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies”, and they decided to use that song as inspiration for this question about Saturn. We have to wonder: how does the teacher know that Saturn
isn’t a single lady?
We have to agree with the student here: the giraffes in these images are pretty heartless. Couldn’t they throw some leaves down to their short friend? Still, next time the student should probably choose one of the multiple-choice answers.
13) The Civil Rights Activist
The student decided to take a different route when answering their teacher’s question. The answer the teacher was really looking for was ‘taxonomy,’ but we’re sure the teacher was impressed by the student’s clever answer.
This student used some creative word-play when they were answering this question. Since it’s a math problem, the teacher probably didn’t give the student credit for his answer. Still, he gets points in our book for his out-of-the-box thinking.
We can see where the student is coming from here: guerrilla warfare is a pretty big problem for a student to solve on their own. But maybe if all the students work together, they can start to figure out a solution.
We have to applaud the student’s creativity here, even if the answer wasn’t exactly right. We think the teacher should have at least given them half a point to reward them for their creative thinking!
Technically, this student answered the question correctly. This probably wasn’t the answer the teacher was really looking for, but we have to applaud the student’s resourcefulness. That definitely deserves some extra credit.
Here’s another case where the student came up with an out-of-the-box answer that could technically be right. We hope the teacher gave this abstract-thinking student the credit they deserved!
When this student was told to show how he solved the problem, he went the literal route with his answer. The result is a pretty hilarious, sort-of accurate answer.
When this student saw the instructions telling them to expand the math problem, they decided to take the directions very literally. The teacher didn’t give them credit for their answer, but at least they acknowledged how funny it was!

did find X, even if they didn’t really solve the problem. After this incident, we’re sure the teacher started using more specific instructions.
22) Problems and Solutions
This elementary school student is one tough cookie! Their solution to the problem of falling down on the playground is direct and very to-the-point.
This student didn’t know the answer to this question about thermodynamics, and so they decided to get creative with their solution. We think this answer deserves an ‘A!’
We love this student’s commitment to answering every single question on this exam literally. Clearly, their teacher felt the same way, because they gave them an ‘A+’ for their creative problem-solving abilities.
When this student realized they didn’t know the answers to these questions, they decided to exploit a flaw in the system. They connected all their lines, and so technically, they got the right answers. We’re sure the teacher didn’t see it that way, though.
This math student is technically right. After all, the question said to find the
differences between ‘8’ and ‘6’—it didn’t say that you had to
subtract the two numbers. We’re curious what the teacher’s response was to this unique answer.
When this young student was asked how they were able to identify a plant, they decided to go very blunt with their answer. This student definitely doesn’t mince words!
28) Lesser Than Or Greater Than
This student was supposed to practice using lesser than and greater than signs, but instead of doing that, they decided to take the third option presented to them. This resulted in answers that are certainly…different.
We’re impressed with this student’s honesty in their essay. But we’re even more impressed by the teacher’s hilarious response—both of these answers deserve an ‘A!’
30) Out-Of-The-Box Thinking
This student may not be great at math, but they are very good at word-play. Hopefully, the teacher gave them a point or two for that!
Where on earth did this kid learn something like this? This is just too funny. But, let’s be honest, this kid is definitely not wrong. They’ll probably have a happy marriage in the future.
Let’s be honest – Warren is being totally realistic here. Although it’s possible that this kid could live to be over 100-years-old, he’s most likely correct that he’ll be six feet under.
When you’re a kid, life is simple. Even when you’re not feeling good, there’s a simple fix for it – just poop! And the fact that he went out of his way to write this for his teacher is absolutely adorable.
This kid hilariously answered this question in the most literal way. I mean, if they didn’t take the time to study or pay attention in class, they could at least make their teacher laugh!
It looks like Frankie’s parents don’t give him a chore list and he’s totally fine with that. In fact, his freeloader status is something he has no shame in admitting.
36) Tell us how you really feel
For some people, school was the absolute worst. Whether it was teachers you didn’t like, bullies that were mean, or just overall dismay for school in general, it sucked for many. And this kid? They’re not afraid to tell their teacher how they really feel.
Although this isn’t the answer that this teacher was looking for, this student technically isn’t wrong. We hope they at least got half credit for their smart-ass answer.
38) How to show up late for class
We’re guessing that Mr. Thomas was trying to establish understanding of the school and class rules but this student wanted to give an answer that stood out. We sort of hope that he shows up late to class one day.
Here’s another strange question that was asked by a teacher during a test. The other answers just seem too odd so this kid ran with the logical.
There’s a fine line between confident and cocky and this kid walking that line. The teacher corrected this student’s answer but we hope she acknowledged his “smartness” too.
Now, this student is going to skip all the hard stuff and go straight to the goods. To be honest, this was poor maze design. They should have put the bones on the other side because why wouldn’t you just go straight down?
42) The importance of knowing vowels
We’re so happy for this little one that they’re starting to learn their basic math skills. But we hope their parents instill “say no to drugs” at an early age so that this statement doesn’t come true.
We don’t know if this student just adorable thought this was part of the assignment or if they were trying to actually sign their parents’ signature, but either way – it’s absolutely adorable.
The teacher was probably looking for the proper name of these first cells but hey! This answer is way better than the correct one. And once again, his kid isn’t wrong! The first cell sounds like it would be have been really bored and lonely.
Here’s another answer that really isn’t wrong – it just happens to be hilariously specific. We’re sure that two polar bears and three…wait…four seals are there too.
This test was given after a history lesson during the Lincoln era and when this teacher asked what they’d like to tell or ask Abraham Lincoln, this kid responded with the most morbidly hilarious answer ever.
Trying kids to explain their critical thinking skills is important when growing up. But sometimes, asking to explain their thinking can backfire and you get very literal answers.
We like the thought process of this student and, even if they didn’t know the correct answer, their answer was a million times better. And all the teacher did was strike a red ‘X’ through it!
This kid’s parent seems to like throwing back a bottle or two and it looks like the kid has taken notice and isn’t a fan. Maybe mom should take it down a notch…or at least hide it in a mug.
50) Thanks for the warning
Once again, kids’ honesty is one of the best and most hilarious things in the world. We love how they circled their own snot stain and explained to the teacher not too touch it. Absolutely adorable.
Given only the options of “hit” or “fit,” this student wrote their own answer and we’d have to agree that it’s a way better option. And they’re right! You should never hit dogs!
How the heck does this little kid even know the lyrics to this song? The fact that they wrote them out as an answer to this question is just too funny and we hope the teacher got a good laugh.
Now that this kid has learned about Earth Day, they were shocked to hear about it. Their suggestion of knowing it for a trivia game is too precious.
This student decided to get creative with their exam answers by trying to cover it up as “Top Secret” and spilled coffee. We like how they went out of their way to create fake answers underneath.
It looks like this student is pretty much nailing their exam until it comes to the answer about hue. But hey! At least it looks like their teacher appreciated the humor! And who doesn’t like Hugh Jackman?
