A big part of being a parent is being a protector. From the moment your child is born, you feel a deep need and responsibility to keep them safe. It’s something that comes naturally to every mom and dad, and you’ll do pretty much anything to protect your little ones.
But sometimes, it’s the kids who have to protect their parents!
That’s what happened to mom, Tracy Anderwald and her daughter, Allison, when Tracy found herself in a life-threatening situation.
It all began when Tracy and Allison were enjoying a ‘mommy-daughter day’ together at Tracy’s sister’s house. They were hanging out in the swimming pool when Tracy suddenly had a seizure.
She blacked out, right in the middle of the pool, and fell face-first into the water. Without help, she was going to drown in an unconscious state.
Luckily, little Allison made the right moves to save her mom’s life!
The 5-year-old girl could have panicked or stressed out, but instead, she managed to remain calm enough to take decisive action and protect her mother. Seeing that her mom was not responding, little Allison swam over to her and used her own strength to push her mom towards the shallow end of the pool.
Once that was done, she flipped her mom’s body over so that her face was facing upwards, rather than down into the water, and then she ran into the house to get help.
Luckily, one of Allison’s aunts, Tedra Hunt, was walking over to the house when Allison arrived and told her what had happened. Tedra called 911 and ran to the pool. It didn’t take long for the emergency services to arrive and take Tracy to the nearby CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi-Memorial in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Tracy could barely remember anything that had happened when she woke up in a hospital bed, but was astonished to learn that her own little girl had saved her life when she was able to watch the whole thing back in security camera footage.
In an interview with ABC, Tedra revealed:
The doctors explained to us that had Tracy been underwater any longer, she probably wouldn’t be with us right now. It is truly amazing that this little girl, who’s actually also pretty small for her age, was able to save my sister.
It certainly is amazing! For a 5-year-old to save a life in such a dramatic fashion is simply incredible, and it just goes to show that teaching kids to swim early on in life can make a real difference. Allison has been swimming since she was just a toddler, so she had enough strength in her little body to get in the pool and help her mom.
Tedra also said that Allison was a “guardian angel” for the whole family, and we’re inclined to agree!
The doctors were worried that Tracy might have brain damage or might not even make a full recovery, but thanks to Allison’s quick-thinking and life-saving actions, her mom was able to leave the hospital without any issues shortly after the ordeal.
Now, the family hopes that their inspiring story will encourage other parents to help their kids learn to swim.
