Satire is an art form, but there’s always that one guy who the joke is totally lost on. In the age of the internet, it’s a lot easier to spot people who take a joke too seriously or misunderstand it altogether. It’s also really funny – often funnier than the actual joke.
So thanks to the r/woooosh on Reddit, we can all sit back and laugh at people who became the joke themselves.
Here are 40 people who embarrassed themselves by completely missing the joke
1. There’s Norway you can be this dumb.
Imagine being accused of supporting the confederacy, when all you’ve done is come from the land of Vikings and Winter Olympics. On the other hand, imagine seeing “NORWAY” spelled out for you in bold letters and still not knowing what flag this is.
2. Yeah, 2020 has made us all slim and shady too.
Man, with the political climate and pandemic brought on by 2020, it doesn’t seem like anyone’s safe.
3. Maybe it’s phantom limb syndrome, you don’t know.
Thanks for telling us, bud. I was about to check if the shark needed a band-aid or something. In the meantime, I’ll hang onto these band-aids in case an octopus gets a paper cut or something.
4. Maybe’s he’s used to calling them faucets?
I wonder what he thinks “Let that sink in” means. Though I do hope he figured the joke out eventually.
5. Lost In The Details
The teeny-tiny print painstakingly tattooed bled considerably after time. In fact, the symbols are virtually indecipherable. Many tattoo artists will advise clients against getting such a tattoo, knowing fully well that this likely will happen.
6. At least they admitted to not getting the joke.
Besides the joke getting lost on them, it’s a bit hard not to comment on “I don’t understood”. I at least hope you’re…wishing them well.
7. Imagine thinking Conan O’Brien, of all people, is being serious.
I can’t help but think a similarly appropriate response to this could be “Oh, didn’t know you were alive in 1918?”. Dealing with a dumb person is best done with a big dash of sarcasm.
8. Rest in pepperoni.
This one is a lot dumber when you realize that it was posted in the r/jokes subreddit. It completely escapes me why you’d go into a subreddit called “r/jokes” and then take all the jokes literally and seriously.
9. When you’re the very definition of the word you don’t understand.
If this were equivocation -that is, using multiple meanings of a word as if they were interchangeable, then it wouldn’t be as embarrassing. Too bad it’s not equivocation, and this person really is just a bit dense.
10. You only get one shot.
Visual humor isn’t for everyone, but I’d expect a joke this obvious to not have to be explained to anyone. Alas, I’m wrong. Maybe this person has good intentions and advice though?
11. I can really relate to those 26 downvotes.
I’ve only tried to plank once in my life, and it only confirmed the horror this image was trying to show. Is this really the only way I can slow down time? Can’t we use Witch Time like Bayonetta does?
12. Mr. Worldwide?
Pretty sure Konnichiwa is German. Hence the popular saying “Guten tag, senpai. Hast du schon gegessen?”
13. A true master of deception right here.
I’d like to think that this person wasn’t totally sure if the other one would fall for it, and started smiling uncontrollably when they did. I would also like to imagine the other person taking at least a couple days to realize their mistake.
14. Can stupidity move mountains?
The only thing funnier than someone being wrong, is when someone is wrong and tells you to “educate yourself”. That said, I wonder how many lives were lost during the tragedy of Average commercial airline attitude. Sounds like it was a horrible thing just hearing the name.
15. Statistics can be confusing, I guess.
How did this person understand the joke in the picture but not when the parent comment was making the same joke? Oh, and the eye-rolling emoji is really what sells it for me here.
16. Hey, fractions are confusing.
Really seems like no matter how obvious your sarcasm might be, there’s always that one guy who thinks you’re being serious. Fun fact, this is a known phenomenon called Poe’s Law.
17. Thanks for telling us, mate.
Don’t you love it when you call out how dumb most of the population is, only to have someone in the comments prove your point?
18. At least this person didn’t say “educate yourself” this time.
While a lot of people can be wrong, confident and rude at the same time, it’s nice to see people who are just wrong and nothing else. So as facepalm-worthy as this reply is, at least it’s not as bad as some of the other things on this list.
19.
While the sun and time will cause fading, surprisingly having a cast will, too. Emily cleverly had someone recreate her brand new tattoo on the outside of her cast, then after it was removed, showed how it impacted her tattoo. She broke her arm the very next day after getting her tattoo, she shared.
20. At least they’re not blind to hatred!
Does anyone remember when people thought Tweeting emojis would help blind people understand them? I sure do, and I feel like they’d get along quite well with this person.
21. Sarcasm is like chess…sorta?
Playing with sarcasm can take you to layer after layer, and it’s not too strange that it could get confusing. Though I feel like that’s giving this person too much benefit of doubt.
22. How can you bee this dumb?
Bees are too small, you say? Then why not just use a smaller Gopro? Bet you didn’t think of that, huh?
23. Well that’s just plane stupid.
Both of them have wheels and carry lots of people. Isn’t a plane sort of just a big, flying bus anyway?
24. “Good soldiers follow orders”
While it would be worth it to poke fun at this person for missing the joke, the warning itself is completely warranted. Ball pits are notoriously filthy, according to a lot of people who work in food service.
25. Gee, who would have thought?
Thanks for telling us, mate. Next you’re gonna tell me Navy seals aren’t actually seals.
26. Is a young Drake called a Drakeling?
Call me judgemental, but the ancient Troll face meme in this person’s profile pic already tells me all I need to know about them. Seems that just like the meme in his profile pic, his satire radar is also still stuck in 2011.
27. When you ain’t the sharpest tool in the shed.
Doesn’t make sense not to get the pun. Maybe his brain got smart but his head got dumb?
28. You can’t convince me he’s not just playing dumb.
It’s been a couple dozen entries on this list already, though this one is hands down the most painful and cringe-worthy to read. This meme’s layout pretty much just screams “It’s a joke”, but against all odds, this guy still takes it seriously.
29. Three for the price of one.
You ever see someone so oblivious to the joke that it’s almost painful? Yeah. With that out the way, can anyone tell me who the sponge in Spongebob Squarepants is? I keep Googling for the answer but all I get is the name of the show.
30. Because he’s been….decomposing?
Some people are brighter than Glowstone. There are also people who are denser than bedrock. This guy is one of them.
31. It’s…it’s in the subreddit’s name, dude.
Imagine going to a subreddit called “Dumb ideas” and pointing out how dumb the ideas are. Can’t be me.
32. “Who says I’m gay?” “You are gay”.
If that’s his name on his jersey, then why doesn’t he write down his surname as “22” on his forms? Answer me that.
33. I stopped taking him seriously when used “Cuz”.
YouTube’s comment are as good a place as any to find people who miss the joke real hard. At least it was kinda nice of this guy to point it out. Kinda.
34. “None of your business”
We all have that one friend who has 15gb worth of…homework on their computer. Bless this person and their innocence.
35. The worst bit is that 3 people liked the comment.
It’s enough that the comment itself is dumb. The fact that 3 unknown people out there are just as dumb is what hurts more.
36. “Why yes I’m an expert zoologist, how could you tell?”
See, this one’s a strange one. He’s got the widely known Gigachad meme as his profile pic, a meme notorious for implementing self-aware sarcasm. Despite all that, none of that meme’s self awareness seems to have translated into him.
37. You deserved those 22 downvotes.
I get that the whole point of posting satire like this is to weed out the dumb people, but somehow I’m always surprised when it actually happens. One of life’s mystery’s, I guess.
38. At least it wasn’t a satire subreddit this time.
It’s only giving credit where it’s due – the r/showerthoughts subreddit is typically semi-serious. So we can’t really fault this person too much for this one. That’s more than I can say for the other people on this list.
39. Yeah, that’s the joke.
I know that “Yeah, that’s the joke” can be said for just about everything on this list, but there’s really no better way to respond to this one. Come on, dude.
40. The cat’s making the same face as the rest of us right now.
Can’t say I blame the guy. Some of this 3d art can get ridiculously realistic.
