Most house fires start in the kitchen.
This is one room in the house with so many appliances, and most of them are for heating. Aside from the stove and oven, we got a toaster, coffee maker, and air fryer. All these appliances spell out disaster if not properly maintained.
According to the National Fire Protection Association in their 2015-2019m statistics, “cooking is the leading cause of house fires and fire injuries.” This is why they warn the public always to stay alert while cooking.
But no matter how attentive we are, accidents still happen.
Sometimes, it can be frantic in the kitchen, especially when cooking, and we leave some things unattended. It’s already unfortunate if you burn the food; you wouldn’t want it to go from bad to worse by catching fire or burning your house.
The Jermyns in Jacksonville, Florida, had that kind of accident in the kitchen.
The family had just finished lunch when their air fryer caught fire. It was their four-year-old daughter who saw what was happening in the kitchen.
You can see Amelia running to the kitchen in their home surveillance cam.
She saw the fire and even said, “Oh no! Dad’s going to kill me!” with a matching head slap. As if on cue, Frozen’s soundtrack played in the background, and little Amelia ran to look for his father, who was brushing his teeth.
Daniel and stepmom Meghan said that Amelia had always been an animated storyteller.
She would make all these gestures and actions when she makes or retells stories, but they knew something was up. She told them they “got to come see this,” with her arms flailing upwards. They realized it wasn’t a story but a real-life horror in their kitchen.
Daniel immediately ran and tried to take the fire out.
He looked for the fire extinguisher, but he had zero luck. Time was of the essence, so he grabbed the air fryer, ran outside, and threw the air fryer to their swimming pool. He made sure nobody would get hurt, including their dogs but ended up burning his feet in the process.
Daniel and stepmom Meghan said Amelia was their hero that day.
Aside from their melted air fryer, the fire damaged their stove. Everybody was also safe except for Daniel’s burnt feet. He said he turned off the air fryer after cooking but left it plugged.
That is one of the many reasons an air fryer can catch fire.
Appliances that are used for heating or have heating functions should always be unplugged all the time. It is also essential, especially for air fryers, to wash it right away and get rid of oil since oil deposits can easily catch fire.
You should also read the safety instruction properly in the manual.
There may be specific safety precautions for your air fryer that you need to follow. Instructions such as proper washing, air fryer capacity, types and amount of oil you can use, and temperature can help prevent your appliance from catching fire.
