4-year-old stops breathing in traffic jam and mom finds deputy to save her life

A sheriff’s deputy in Dallas intervened to save a toddler who was choking in distress, as shown in a disturbing video.

In the United States, at least one child dies from choking on food every five days, and more than 12,000 children are rushed to a hospital emergency room each year for food-choking injuries according to the Department of Health’s New York State website.

With choking, time is definitely gold.

Since choking is caused by a blockage of the upper airway, either by food or other foreign objects, it results in difficulty or overall loss of breathing.

For this reason, it’s critical to take the blocking object out before it’s too late. Otherwise, the airway obstruction may become fatal.

The mother of the child probably knew about this, which is why she frantically sought out the help of the officer behind her.

Thank God she did.

The mom was seen on camera running and rushing to a deputy’s car behind her at a busy intersection while clutching her 4-year-old kid in her arms.

Just watching the scene can make anyone hold her breath.

“She just basically handed me her baby that was not responsive at all,” Dallas County Sheriff’s Deputy Keith Rose recalled. “I grabbed the baby and turned her over and pat her on the back, some fluid came out of her mouth, placed her on the driver’s seat, and just started CPR.”

The child started showing signs of life.

Deputy Rose was relieved to see the infant breathing and moving on her own after a few nerve-wracking minutes.

“Of course, my concern was that mom didn’t squeeze her too tight that she would be unconscious again,” he added.

CPR indeed saves lives.

Deputy Keith Rose, who has been in the service for 35 long years, claimed that he had never dealt with an event of this nature.

He also said that his CPR training had been useful.

“I work in the warrant section and we train quite a bit and quite often we throw in an officer down rescue type training and it helps out with medical and CPR and different types of situations,” he shared.

“All the years that I’ve been out here, this is right at the top. Just glad that I was at the right place at the right time,” he added.

The little girl was revived, thanks to the skillful deputy. After being resuscitated by the officer, the little child was transferred to the hospital for further assessment.

As of the moment, we have no clear update on what happened to the child after this encounter but we are hoping that silence means she made it through the whole ordeal alive and healthy.

As for the deputy, he also hopes nothing but the best for the little girl. Thanks to his immediate attention and calm demeanor the child was taken out of utter danger in no time.

Whether you have a child or not, CPR training is always a good idea to enroll in. You never know when you’re gonna need it.
