Four tired young men leaving their job at Rebounderz Adventure Florida noticed an elderly woman having some trouble with her mobility scooter. Without hesitation, they stopped the car, jumped out, and started pushing her scooter up a hill toward her home. What they didn’t realize was that someone had noticed their efforts and had to thank them in person.
These are some good guys.
Katty Castro noticed the men pushing the heavy scooter up the hill while holding an umbrella over the woman’s head. Castro, a public relations representative at the Florida Living Independent Community, was so moved by their compassion and willingness to help the woman that she took photos of their random act of kindness.
The commotion outside is unexpected.
“Since this is a very quiet neighborhood I was surprised to hear a commotion, laughs, and four gentlemen pushing one of my lady residents under a heavy storm in Florida…They were pushing her up the big slope toward her residence. These heroes were so focused on helping regardless of the inclement weather and they were even covering her with an umbrella, which showed more compassion on their part.” – Castro told Fox News.
A good deed goes viral.
Castro went out to thank the men in person and asked for a group picture. She then shared the photos on the community social media app, Nextdoor. Word of their efforts spread quickly and caught the attention of local news stations.
They didn’t need a thank you… they were just happy to help.
“[We] noticed the woman was clearly experiencing a malfunction with her mobile scooter…We were tired, dirty and wanted to get back to the hotel…but, knew without a doubt that regardless of our long day, it certainly wasn’t worse than the day this lady was having.”- JohnMorgan Massa told Fox News.
“She literally had a plastic bag on her head to keep her hair dry,” – Massa told Fox News
Massa told Fox News that there was no way they could leave the woman in the rain, in the middle of the road with a broken scooter. Even though the men didn’t think it was a heroic effort on their part, Castro disagreed.
They stepped up to make sure she was ok.
“Those scooters are heavy, add the resident’s weight, her groceries, and collapsing tires, the sum is a whole workout. But, I am proud of their sacrifice,” – Castro told Fox News
“We never expected recognition, just helping a fellow member of our community.” – Massa told Fox News
The men were shocked at the outpouring of gratitude from the community. They never expected it but hope that it inspires other people to help their neighbors when someone is in need.
Acts of kindness can be heroic.
Even though the men just did what they thought was right, it made someone’s day a whole lot better. Their efforts are inspiring and hopefully contagious.
“Holding a door, smiling, picking up someone’s spilled groceries, reaching for an item on the top shelf in the grocery store; and, yes, helping someone whose electric wheelchair broke down in the rain are things almost anyone can do,” Massa told Fox News
