The COVID-19 pandemic has had devastating consequences on humanity – especially within the elderly community. So, for those living at nursing homes and assisted living facilities, these can be terrifying times. Chef Kevin, however, wants to help make their lives and days a little brighter – with food!
Chef Kevin Nairn works in a care facility in Perthshire, Scotland, and is cooking up some of the tastiest and most beautiful food you could imagine.
His sister, Yvonne, spoke with BoredPanda and had this to say about her brother:
“I am extremely proud of my big brother and we are always discussing food and recipes,” she said. “During this strange time of the COVID-19 lockdown, care homes have had it tough and I just wanted people to see the happiness my brother brings to the residents.”
Take a look at 35 of his most mouth-watering dishes he’s served up for these lucky residents!
1) Let’s start with dessert
Get ready to start things off with a bang. Fair warning: you might find yourself drooling. Here, Chef Kevin has prepared an incredible-looking mini creme brulee with an Oreo crust. What?!
2) He’s so thoughtful too
Chef Kevin isn’t just an incredible chef, he’s also incredibly compassionate. He created this gourmet meal in pureed form on the right plate, so residents who can’t eat solid foods can still enjoy his creations.
3) So accommodating!
Great cook, compassionate, and kind? What more could you need from a person? Well, he’s also accommodating to special diets as well. Here, Chef Kevin has created a Vegetarian Wellington.
4) Simple yet amazing
I don’t care what age you are, everyone loves mozzarella sticks. And when they’re created by an amazing chef with a side of chili sauce? You’ve gone to cheesy heaven.
5) Homemade lasagna
The residents of this care facility are always in for a nightly treat when Chef Kevin is cooking. And we have a feeling that lasagna night is one of the favorites. Look how beautiful this plating is!
6) Sweet and savory
Look at these towers of profiterole yumminess! Kevin became a chef in 1995, right after leaving school.
“I had been working at the local chip shop after school for a couple of years. My cousin who had just become a chef at a hotel outside my town decided he didn’t enjoy it and left. With a little encouragement from my mother, I contacted the hotel to ask if there were any jobs available (secretly knowing that there was) and unlike my cousin, found out that I actually have a passion for cooking,” the chef said.
7) Orkney Caramel Shortbread
” The best part of working in care is the interaction with the residents,” he explained. “We plan the menus together and we even have tasting sessions which is great fun (this also gives me a chance to try something different for myself and the residents).”
8) A savory breakfast of salmon and eggs
Residents of the facilities and even their families come together to try out Kevin’s new creations – then they vote on if it should stay.
“They all have scorecards and if a new dish scores high, it goes on and if it’s bad, we discuss how to change that dish to make it better. The residents always look forward to their meals and it feels good to know that they have had a lovely home-cooked meal.”
9) Only the best!
On tonight’s dinner, residents were served an incredible meal of venison and Cumberland sauce. People would pay top dollar for a dinner like that! Did they get to enjoy a nice glass of red wine too, we hope?
10) Gourmet to the max
This night’s menu featured duck breast and fondant potato. Wow! Sometimes, residents try to pay him for his dishes.
“The smile on their face when I explain to them that it’s all been paid for. Every day is different and that’s why I love what I do.”
11) High Tea!
A day in the UK isn’t complete without having high tea. Here, Chef Kevin has prepared a lovely array of delicious high tea cakes to accompany the hot beverage. So pretty!

If any of these residents are chocolate lovers, they must have been in pure bliss the day that Chef Kevin created these homemade truffles. They look absolutely incredible.
15) Pureed meatballs
Here’s another beautiful purred concoction of meatballs, peas, and potatoes for a resident that can’t eat solid foods. It’s so wonderfully and thoughtfully prepared. So amazing!
16) Tropical dessert
Chef Kevin created a mango mousse for dessert and it looks simply delectable. With some extra blueberries and strawberries? You can’t go wrong.
17) Pakora
For those of you that don’t know what pakora is, it’s a fritter-like fried snack originating from the Indian subcontinent. It’s extremely popular and it seems as if Chef Kevin knows how to cook it right!
18) Filling brunch
Chef Kevin has prepared a ham quiche along with a smoked mackerel salad for brunch and our mouths are watering just looking at it. You’d never go hungry if you lived in this care facility. We love it!
19) Because who doesn’t love parfait?
“Eton Mess” is what Chef Kevin has titled this one. And even though we don’t know exactly what’s in it, we’re certain that it’s delicious. Maybe he needs to release a cookbook?
20) More premium breakfast options
As if his breakfast creations haven’t been impressive enough, here we have a ham and scrambled egg croissant sandwich. Potatoes, tomatoes, and a creamy sauce accompany the meal. Yummy!
21) Mmmm…macaroni…
These yummy-looking things are macaroni yorki (Yorkshire) pies. No one would be mad at cheesy pasta stuffed inside a delicious pastry-like puff.
22) More Yorkies…
Now, he’s created ratatouille Yorkies and they appear to be drizzled in a balsamic glaze. Whatever is in here, we’re certain it’s delicious. Does he do mail-order meals?
23) Yorkie in wrap form
Okay, now Chef Kevin is just showing off. Here, he’s created a roast pork and salad Yorkie wrap. It looks like two meals in one! Can they take leftovers to their room?
24) Simply gourmet
For this night’s dinner, Kevin created a minted pea tart with pea vinagrette. Once again, so simple, but so elegant. We just adore his creativity.
25) Attempt #1
“Free standing creme brûlée with homemade strawberry ice cream and a brandy snap disc. 1st attempt at a free standing brûlée,” Chef Kevin shared.
26) Solid and pureed
Chef Kevin pureed another dish for a resident. This time, it’s a stuffed tomato. He takes such good care of everyone that he feeds and it warms our hearts.

Taste and compare time! Which of these delicious-looking desserts do you think would win the taste test? Now, this is a seriously hard toss-up.
30) Sounds refreshing
The mint yogurt that goes along with these eggplant and zucchini fritters sounds so cool and refreshing. What a perfect combo! And who doesn’t like fried foods every now and again?
31) Rich, creamy, and nutritious
Who says nutrition has to be boring or taste bland? Chef Kevin has figured out how to make healthy things taste rich, creamy, and full of flavor. So well-balanced!
32) Classic flavors
A shrimp or prawn cocktail is always crowd-pleaser. That’s why it’s been around for decades! Chef Kevin made it his own by pulling off his own twist on melba toast.

Chef Kevin really makes an effort to cook dishes from all types of cuisines, using all types of flavors, and using fresh ingredients. We seriously applaud him for his hard work. This looks fantastic!
34) Familiar flavors
Kedgeree is a popular dish in the UK as well. “a dish consisting of cooked, flaked fish, boiled rice, parsley, hard-boiled eggs, curry powder, butter or cream, and occasionally sultanas. The dish can be eaten hot or cold,” says Wikipedia.
35) A nightly spread
Could you imagine having a dinner like this every night? Wow! We’re so grateful for Chef Kevin and we’re sure that his residents are too! Way to go, Kevin!
