Watching the news can be a big downer. It seems like it’s just one negative news story after another. Of course, it’s these negative or shocking stories that keep us tuned in every evening, biting our nails. Sadly, it’s positive and uplifting stories that often get missed or have limited coverage.
Whether it’s media-bias or our preference for negative and sensationalized news stories, happy and feel-good stories are often overlooked.
One Twitter user, Jacob Atkins, was taking a moment to reflect on the past year, thinking of all that has happened in the past twelve months. Many of the stories that emerged over the year involved controversial topics that, although though they’re uncomfortable, are necessary to talk about. Topics like politics or religion are important, but always divisive.
Atkins wanted to focus on the good and positive stories of the year instead. So, he took to the internet to scout out some of 2017’s most uplifting and happy stories. Once he compiled a list to cover almost one story for every month of the year, Atkins shared the positivity on Twitter.
There’s a lot of doom and gloom out there in the world. Jacob Atkins’ post is a great reminder to everyone that there is always something to be grateful for and someone to admire.
