Pit bulls get a bad rap, you can always find someone who says “they’re dangerous” or “they’re bred to kill” but it’s far from the truth. Sure, any dog can be mean, but it usually comes down to their owner and the way they’re treated. This adorable 2-year-old didn’t see a “dangerous” dog when she fell for this shelter pit bull in need of help.
“G” is the toddler who met a “sick” doggie, and convinced her mom to bring her home
Young kids can sense things that adults can’t, it’s like they’re closer to the source so there’s still this profound connection to where they came from. When this 2-year-old sensed this pit bull needed help, she made it clear to her mommy that they couldn’t leave without her.
It all started when G and her mother headed to the shelter to look at dogs, the little girl locked on to one dog imparticular. In the video posted by The Dodo, the mother explains:
“She pointed to the doggy shaking in the back. My daughter wanted to meet her more than any other dog at the shelter that day. She didn’t have a name. She stunk like mange and she had snot running from her nose. And G said, ‘mommy, that one,’ She asked me to ‘let the doggy out, need help.’ She panicked and refused to walk when we attempted to take her out. G took the leash and was so patient with her. “
“Wherever G went, she went”
Once G finally got the pit bull out of her cage, the little 2-year-old was completely patient with the sickly dog and immediately built a bond with her.
The two unlikely friends played together, with G using her dress to wipe the dog’s running nose and goop caked eyes. “Doggy sick, need help” is the phrase that stuck out to G’s mother. How does a 2-year-old know this?
G was adamant that the pit bull needed help, and that they could give it to her
The tiny girl gave the dog hugs, kisses, and belly rubs, regardless of how she looked or smelled, gestures that left her mother stunned by her kindness. What’s just as amazing, the fact that a 2-year-old girl was able to identify an animal in need and had the compassion to want to help.
When they put the shelter pitbull back in her cage, she immediately began shaking again but G refused to leave her side. The smart little girl just kept saying:
“Sick doggy, need help, go home.”
G got her wish, they took that “sick” shelter dog home and named her Scarlett
Scarlett and G are now inseparable, and with her new family’s love and care, Scarlett is doing much better. She’s not the “sick” dog that G first demanded to save, showing us that a little love and compassion, goes a long way! Scarlett is also regularly bathed by G now, so no more miss smelly.
G and Scarlett’s relationship has touched hearts all around the world, but how could it not, this one’s a real tear-jerker. G’s instinct to help the sick animal in need is just incredible, what an inspiring little girl.
The story posted to YouTube by The Dodo has been viewed over 8.3 million times, with 156,000 people who’ve liked it
Over 10,000 people also left comments for the little girl and her rescue dog, many cried tears of joy for the big-hearted toddler and her new best friend.
Not only is G the most adorable baby girl ever, but her insistence on saving Scarlett is just remarkable. I wouldn’t be surprised is she’s a future Nobel Prize winner or something. To see the heartwarming story for yourself, watch the video below!
