“You Raise Me Up” has touched many people in deep and personal ways.
The powerful song can be interpreted by every listener because the song makes them think of the person, or people, that has helped raise them up to their full potential.
11-year-old Blake Walker covered “You Raise Me Up” so beautifully that it will leave you with goosebumps.
How can an 11 year old demonstrate the meaning behind such a powerful song?
Blake Walker is a member of the One Voice Children’s Choir and they explained it perfectly.
“‘You Raise Me Up’ is a song of hope that is inspiring at any stage of life. When you feel discouraged and lonely, the world can feel very dark and unfriendly. Don’t despair, YOU ARE NOT ALONE! You are surrounded by angels who raise you up, both seen and unseen,” One Voice Children’s Choir stated.
Blake gracefully reminds not just peers of his age but everyone that a person of any age can help raise another up.
Blake starts the song at a desk inside a classroom.
The video does not outwardly show it but it is important to remember that teachers can be a huge influence in a child’s life
. Teachers raise up their students every day and teach them more than just academics.
Teachers help children see their full potential to stand on any mountain in life.
Friends are a major support system for people of all ages and Blake really showcases that in his video.
Blake is singing alone on a bench while other children, his age, are playing together on the playground.
Isolation is a heavy feeling for children and adults alike. Blake does not smile until two boys come over and invite him to play.
It was so easy for the boys to include Blake and it raises Blake up more than they know.
Blake might be young but his voice is mesmerizing especially singing such a powerful song.
One viewer told Blake, “Very beautiful & uplifting. You have such an amazing & powerful voice, it is hard to believe you are so young. I am looking forward to seeing your singing career blossom & take you as far as you want it to go.”
Blake is only 11 years old but he already has more experience than others double his age.
As a member of the One Voice Children’s Choir he has performed in the United States, Japan and France.
He has performed at a private event for the Princess of Tonga but also to an audience of 20,000 people too!
Viewers can hear the strength and confidence in Blake’s voice that comes with talent, practice, and experience.
“Really great, great singing and a nice video. This song is legendary, but what you do with it is great, really good work. More of this, please,” a viewer commented.
Make sure to watch until the end.
The video ends with the message of paying it forward. Blake is approached to play when he was alone on the bench.
At the end he approaches a young girl who is now sitting alone on the bench. Since Blake was raised up by his friends he makes sure to raise up others around him too.
It is an emotional end to the already emotional video and song.
