Their home is gone but they have each other.

The fire caused the family to lose virtually everything in the home just days before Christmas. This is an extremely difficult reality for the family but they can live with the knowledge that all of their children made it out safe and sound, thanks to their big brother Brody.

He knew what to do.

“It kept getting bigger and bigger, ” Broday told WKRN News 2 about the flames. “All you could see was just smoke coming out…My mom and dad told us, if there was a fire, to grab everyone and run out of the house and call 911.” – Brody told News 4 Nashville

He even tried to save their home.

After seeing the orange flames, Brody told his siblings to get out of the house and carried his 2-year-old brother to safety. He then ran back into the home in an attempt to save it. “I ran back in and then I grabbed a Starbucks cup and tried to put the fire out but I saw the fridge melting and I went out.” – Brody told WKRN News 2

Their family is whole.

After Sims raced home the night of the fire, she saw all her kids standing outside safe and sound. Her daughter had called 911 and Brody had saved them all. It must have taken such bravery for him to not only help his siblings out of the burning home but for him to run back in to save what was left. “I’m just really thankful the kids have been trained what to do in emergencies…We’re unbelievably proud.” – Sims told News 4 Nashville
