If only the mythical Fountain of Youth is true, we would know the answer to that question; it is not.

The reality is we must live a healthy lifestyle if we aim to live longer, like keeping ourselves active and eating a balanced and healthy diet.

God forbid we figure ourselves in any accidents!

Centenarians probably know the secret to living a hundred years or more.

According to the National Center for Health Statistics, the life expectancy rate in the United States is 76.1 years based on their 2021 findings – a decline from the previous year, which was 77.0.

It seems like reaching a hundred years old is getting farther to reach but seeing how others have lived longer gives us hope.

Just like this firefighter in New Jersey who is still up and about at 108 years old!

Vincent Dransfield is a retired Fire Chief who is still in service today.

He is the oldest firefighter in Little Falls Volunteer Fire Department, and while he is not as active as he used to be during his prime, his name remains on their roster at Singac Engine Company No. 3.

The fire department has also recognized his contributions dedicating an entire wall to him.

He’s been in the fire department for 84 years, and all his hard work paid off, especially when he saw his accomplishments plastered on the station’s walls.

All his photos, certificates, and old gear were there to honor his years of service.

At 108 years old, it’s surprising how Vincent still moves around so much.

His mind is still sharp and quick-witted; he could drop a joke or counter your banter in a snap.

He still moves around so much and even leased a car two years ago that he still drives around today.

He lives alone and does everything in the house himself, including grocery shopping.

What’s his secret? He mentioned two simple things.

“I like to have a sense of humor,” Dransfield told PIX 11. “It’s good. It gets you somewhere. If you’re nasty and angry, you ain’t going nowhere.”

This makes sense, doesn’t it?

All the anger and hatred make you feel and look old, and your body reacts accordingly.

But if you have a sense of humor and brighten everyone’s day, you’ll have more joy radiating from within, and it shows on your body.

That, and a cup of Ovaltine every day.

Vincent loves this sweet treat and ensures he gets his daily dose.

After all, the drink is packed with nutrients and provides energy, so maybe this is where he gets his strength to go out and about and live his life on his own terms.

Vincent’s positive outlook in life is what makes him so lovable to his family.

He is loved by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and said he was always fun to be around.

The centenarian turned 109 years old last March and got what he wished for: his family in his house and spending quality time with him.
